Vitamin D & Wintertime

vitamin dWinter, when sun exposure is at its lowest, is the time of year when you need to be most concerned about the amount of vitamin D you receive. Your vitamin D levels can drop by up to 50% in the winter.  This vitamin helps fight infections, including colds and the flu, as it regulates the expression of genes that influence your immune system to attack and destroy bacteria and viruses.  We all know winter seems to be the season where we all become more prone to illness.
The best way to optimize your intake of this vital vitamin is through sun exposure, but for us northerners that is almost impossible. Therefore, supplementation with vitamin D is a must.
Speak with Dr. Will and Dr. Erin in regards to the amount of vitamin D you should be taking.
