Summer Holidays Are Here!!!
Happy Monday Morning! In our new series Monday Morning Makeovers, we are focusing in on family wellness. For many of us, this week is the first official week of summer holidays for our children. For some parents this can be an overwhelming time of juggling work and play. It can also be a daunting task to find activities that keep our children healthy, active and entertained. A recent article from Global News has outlined ParticipACTION’s efforts to “Bring Back Play”. It is a timely article that helps bring play back to the basics and still provide awesome activities that allowing our children to adopt a healthy lifestyle without stretching our budget and time to thin.
Inspired by a recent study that reports only 7% of kids aged 5 to 11 are meeting the physical activity guidelines, the Canadian charity ParticipACTION’s has put together a bucket list for children under the age of twelve. The program entitled “24 things every child should do before the age of 12” is a fun list of things inspired to get children back outdoors.
Here are our top 5 picks from their list:
#3. Play leap frog
#11. Try a sport that requires a helmet
#17. Bury someone they love in the sand
#18. Play outside in the rain
#22. Create an obstacle course

In our research this week we also found a great resource for hiking and biking trails in Ontario. Be sure to check out http://www.ontariotrails.on.ca/. It is a great place to look up trails in your area and it highlights some of the most popular places just outside your door!
On a side note, last Friday we selected a winner for the Laurie David’s cook book “The Family Cooks”. We haven’t heard back from the winner yet, but since it the long weekend, we thought we would give that person a few extra days to respond. We will post the winner by Wednesday or select another person.
Have a great first week of Summer!
Until next week,
Get Educated! Get Inspired! Take Action!
